I always had a sacred, spiritual connection to nature, animals, and to my creative expressions in art. I knew that there was life and spirit in everything that went beyond what most Euro-Americans offered. I didn't know how to express this until I went to New Zealand in 2013 for an academic conference. The Indigenous Maori of Aoteroa-New Zealand reminded me that all of creation is enlivened. The morning fog, the boat that they carved (the Waka), the sea animals, the art that they made... are all enlivened with what they name Mana and what I would name Spirit, Divine Love, and Consciousness. I have called my art Inspirited to express this.
