JULIA SORENSEN
PAINTING, ENCAUSTIC
I am a lifelong Vermonter and childhood painter, potter and poet. I came back to painting in recent years after building a career in healthcare marketing, raising two amazing sons and years of feeling “too busy” to pursue art.
While I paint still life and very much enjoy plein air, my focus is abstract contemporary art. My medium is mostly oil or acrylic on canvas, with the occasional encaustic piece. Texture and layering are typical features in my work. I believe that art has the ability to capture intrinsic elements of life and all that is fleeting as well as an ability to both express and evoke feelings.
I appreciate abstract art for this reason - each person will see something different and respond in their own unique way to a piece. It’s not my vision that’s important, it’s what you see.
