Jonas Fricke was a member of the original group of artists that formed HARMONY COLLECTIVE: Artist Gallery in 2019. We are grieving his untimely passing. In the words of founder Kay Curtis,

β€œHe provided kindness and wisdom whenever we arrived at an impasse, on any issue. We learned to follow his recommendations. Customers were amazed and inspired by his ability to make his work while behind the counter. He would be painting a banner or sewing a costume for his next event.

The first time he covered a wall with his signature Jonas wall paper we were skeptical, will this work? Now I would not know where I was if it came down. He will be missed by the group of artists who came to know him and by the many Brattleboro fans who could never acquire enough of his silk screened one-of-a-kind repurposed shirts.

All I can say is he gave us a model for a life lived fully. He never compromised but committed to life and art 100%. Brattleboro will continue to love him even if he is playing music elsewhere.”

For the time being, we are keeping a wall of his art installed in the gallery, and his words about his own work here. Love to you all, we really mean it.

JONAS FRICKE

For almost four decades I have used creativity as a walking stick. I believe wholeheartedly in the ability of artwork and creative pursuits to start fires of meaning, illuminate paths of quandary and curiosity, inspire change, make life more colorful and vibrant, as well as inspire others to live more creative lives.

I work in many mediums and use art as an exploratory process of continual revelation lead by fascination.   All avenues of creativity flow through and into each other.  I am a musician and performance artist as well as a visual artist and continually marvel at the mystery of inspiration and revel in experimentation.  I have developed a morphing style of presentation and performance that is immersive and expansive which invites viewer to be fully steep in the experience.  I Use performance and installation art as gateways to further magnify the power of all individual works, thoughts, actions by breaking assumptions and rules about "how things should/can/will be done".  My images and performances function as illustrations of the experience of consciousness and the adventure of the human condition and hope to inspire others to liberate and elevate their perception and being.
