My name is Michelle McCaffrey. I was born and raised in northeastern New Jersey and moved up to Vermont almost 10 years ago . I have always been a creative, dabbling in drawing, painting, knitting, dyeing yarns and fabrics, gardening, sculpture… anything I could get my hands on really, and anything that let me turn something into something else. I have always loved hand made ceramics and the energy and creative fingerprint each piece carries. In march of 2024 I took my first ceramics class since high school and I’ve barely left the studio since. The tactile nature of clay and pottery and all the different applications and creative outlets this one medium can be used for make my brain tingle with possibilities! I like the utilitarian creativity that bowls and mugs and plates and the like have to offer. The everyday things we all use, sometimes without thought, have the potential to be little bits of art that we intentionally select to be the vessels for the things that sustain us. Meals, a hot beverage or warming bowl of soup on a cold day… all chances to be a little something special because its held in a vessel that was made with love and the intention to create and make something beautiful.
My ceramics offer a sense of coziness while also giving the aesthetic of bulbous shapes and interesting textures. I am a baby potter still, so my work is in its early evolutions and I am excited for the many changes and discoveries I have yet to make both in the art form itself, and in the community that surrounds it.
