Ross Thornton Smart was born in 1960 on a small farm in Sanbornton, New Hampshire. The farm buildings at his home were from the 1790’s and have influenced his work all of his life. Smart attended Plymouth State College for Fine Arts and has lived in London, England; Skagway, Alaska; and Morogoro, Tanzania, among others. Now, a local Brattleboro resident, Smart has been an artist and art teacher for over 20 years and is currently a faculty member of River Gallery School.
