Sue Ann Hum
Multi Media Artist
Sue Ann Hum (b. 1951) The artist is a self-proclaimed old hippy chick whose work focuses on a decidedly female, human experience. A prolific painter, Sue Ann offers her authentic voice and bold experimentation as the through lines of her art.
Sue Ann’s paintings are unapologetically evocative, revealing her wit and heart through watercolors, acrylics, oils, papers, and even 23K gold.
With a style as expressive as the women she depicts, Sue Ann is best known for her “She Said” series. These usually joyful, positively cheeky, and frequently thought-provoking portraits of women are paired with inspiring and empowering phrases. From endearing reminders to fearless expletives, these women don’t just speak — they say it loud, as they celebrate a female point of view.
In addition to original paintings, reproductions of her artworks are available at Harmony Collective on Calendars, Note Cards, Photo Tiles and in Themed Gift Boxes.
Sue Ann has received numerous honors for her work, including Best Water Media of Show at 2024 MAAA Art in the Park; a recent Professional Development Grant from the WCA/NH Chapter; and a rare opportunity to host private group painting sessions in Monet’s garden in Giverny, France, from 2014 to 2019. She also teaches in several media.
Beyond her bucolic New Hampshire studio, Sue Ann’s art can be found in galleries, regional exhibits, and the homes of collectors across the country. Sue Ann is also a member of the Blue Fern Gallery in Peterborough, New Hampshire; and Arts Collective Salida in Salida, Colorado.
